If you’re proficient with ornament finishes and want to expand into 3D or gusseted finishes, this is a great project to build on your skills. It feels very much like an ornament once you get going.
By the way, these instructions can be easily adapted for Gruyère cheese (or similar), simply change the shape in step 2 below.
Stitched by Katharine Wagner (@joli.point on Instagram), this canvas by Alli Egan for Stitch Style needlepoint is part of her 3D series which got its start in cheeses but now also includes some champs, buche de noel, and a chocolates box.
As you can see from the examples below, these are meant to fold together to make a 3D piece of cheese pretty enough to eat. The sides fold and then there is a piece of backing matboard that is sewn on.
