How to make a tassel to adorn your needlepoint finish
Adorn ornaments, stockings, clutches and more. Make one in less than 4 minutes.
Tassels are a fun adornment on needlepoint and are super simple to make. You can use fibers from your canvas, sparkles, or add a pop of contrasting materials to your project.
Here’s how you can make one in less than four minutes.

Instructions
Select a template longer than your desired tassel length. For mine, I used a small business card.
Wrap your fiber around your template (e.g. business card) until you reach your desired thickness. Here you can mix in different fibers for added visual interest. I used lace weight crochet fiber in a single color.
When you reach your desired thickness, cut off from your skein, leaving the tail longer or same length as your card template
Using another piece of thread double the length of your hanger, and knot at the end. Loop it through the top of your tassel and loop the knot through the end, burying the knot under your tassel
Cut or slide the tassel off the card
Using another length of thread, tie a square knot about 1/2” of an inch away from the top of the tassel
Wrap the lengths around the tassel 3 or 4 times and then tie another square knot tightly, trimming the ends and burying the knot under one of the wraps if possible
Trim the tassel length using a straight edge and a pair of scissors or rotary cutter
What projects would you add a tassel to?
I’m inspired to add them as an extra element to ornaments, clutches, pillows, or even on the surface of a canvas!
